Configure monitor from root? RH 9.0 can't get to -config -xfree
EDIT: Ok,now it is just saying "Couldn't start X server, trying with VESA driver" and it looks bad and it comes back to root. Also, I can get to the /etc directory now (I was not in at root when I ran it before.) But I don't know what file to look at.
My LCD monitor is not recognized at boot. I tried a suggestion to add VGA=791 or 792 to the boot prompt. One of them went to a black screen the other gave me a series of choices with columns and numbers next to them. I chose a number that said 80 x 60 thinking maybe it was 800x600. It went black too.
However, I used 1 at the GRUB initrd line and now I made it to root. But redhat-config-xfree86 gives me a long python error about "/usr/src build...gtk etc." So I can't get to configuration.
Is there a way to configure the monitor manually? I saw somewhere about editing /etc TextConfig but there isn't anything in that file.
