Angry Completely lost...automated shell script

I have to complete a project for my intro to Linux class. I understand how to complete the menus but its the following two things I am having issues with. PLEASE HELP!!

Add a main menu alternative that runs a process in the background, a long sleep for example, so you get the menu back right away and can make other selections while the background job is running.
Add a main menu alternative that invokes another bash shell so you can examine the process table, remove files, etc., until you type "exit" at which time you'll return to helper's main menu. This doesn't need to be complicated.
