Compiling Minix under Linux

Does the binary of a OS we are building depend on the host OS? The OS code should be complete without any dependencies on the host OS , i mean headers and libraries etc. Its just the right compiler platform pair that we should need to compile an OS code.

How then we should go about compiling Minix under a Linux distro (eg. Fedora). If someone could give me some details to get me started. I've never compiled a large program manually and i fear that this may be the situation here.

From what I see at, this page, it looks like what you want to do can be done ( or at least someone is working along those lines ).

I have not tried it myself but it's something I might be interested in so if you do succeed ( or fail ), I hope you will follow up with a post saying how things went.
