Compatible Mobo?

I've been failing to get linux installed/fully functioning on my machine for a while now. The problems I've been seeing are with the graphics card(both dedicated nVidia and onboard ATI) and the sound card(onboard). I've tried different distros. I just thought about looking up my mobo and it looks like the ASUS M2a-VM(AMD690G chipset,SB600) boards may have some issues. Is there anything I can do or is this board simply not compatible with linux? Thanks much!

For future reference, LinuxQuestions has an HCL (hardware conpatibility list) which you should see before posting a question such as this.

With regard to your mobo, there are three reviews. One has no problems (used as a server board with graphics and sound disabled). The other two reviews both report problems with graphics and sound.

So, it sounds like your board is only partially compatible with Linux. You will have to try several liveCD or liveDVD distros until you find one which works well with your mobo, or buy a more compatible one.

I looked up your board on newegg and it says the onboard video card is ATI Radeon xpress 1250. ATI/AMD have dropped support for it but they still provide a driver. It wont work with distros released after febuary 2009. Unless you can find a patch for it. I always hated having to scour the web for patches to get the damn ati driver to work. So you'll probably have to use the Nvidia card.

As for the audio it's listed as a Realtek ACL883. Which I think should work with the Intel HD audio module and most distro would have.

What are the actual errors you are getting?
