Compaq Deskpro,( Pentium Three) Suitable Linux

Hi, all

I am quite newbie in linux. I am looking for a linux distro that would run fast on my old compaq despro.
Specifications are : Pentium three processor (597 MHZ), 256 mb ram.

I tried to install Xubuntu 7.10, but it was very slow. I couldn't understand it, because it is running Windows XP service pack 2 without any problem. As xubuntu is described to use for older computers. It should work perfect on my pc. Can anyone help me find out decent linux distro that would work smoothly on my pc ? I don't want to use Puppy or Damn small linux. Thanks in advance.

did you try DSL-N? if you do not want that look at http://distrowatch.com/ for many, if not all, Linux and BSD variants.
