Question Compaq Armada graphics issue

I have Slackware on a Compaq Armada 1700. Everything is OK except when I start X only about half of the 14" screen is used.
The install set the resolution to 800X600 60HZ.
According to the specs this laptop can handle 1024X768 24-bit 16million colors.
I have tried playing with xorgconfig, but NO luck.
According to a spec sheet the graphics adapter is trident cyberblade.
Any suggestions?
