Your definitions are up to date. That the version of freshclam is not up to date DOES NOT MEAN that the definitions are not up to date...they wil continue to be maintained. You have nothing to worry about.
Sudo freshclam doesn't work = "locked".

I can't figure out how to scan external media.

Again, that's because it's already running. It is typically configured to run automatically...typically every 10 minutes or so. You shouldn't need to run it manually.
You should be able to verify that in the freshclam.log. On my server, that's at /var/log/freshclam.log -- don't know where you've configured to log the activity tho. You'll need to check the freshclam.conf.

Again, see #7 - what bathory said. Or read the man pages.

It would be much less confusing if you would talk about only one problem at a time.
  • freshclam has nothing to do with scanning external drives. Based on what you've posted, freshclam is working and your databases are current.
  • tor has nothing to do with scanning external drives, or freshclam for that matter, since it appears to be working.
  • Scanning a 2TB drive is going to take time...that said, show us exactly what you've tried and what happened.
Post about those things one at a time. Use quote tags when quoting posts (as I have here) Do not type in all caps.
