I read that some Linux distros have a logon app that lets you choose which desktop to start up with. My redhat does that. I am currently using Debian Woody. Is there a logon app i can install that will give my Debian this functionality? Suggestions?
you are referring to an X login manager I assume. The default is xdm, gnomes is gdm, KDE's is KDM, and there are a few others too. if you are booting directly to X then you will already be using one... maybe yours is just configured not to allow you.. some control panel? as you've not said anything about what your default Desktop / WM is can't say much abuot where that might be.
Thanks for the response. The logon app looks like the standard Debian one. It has the Debian logo and provides textboxes for username and password. But no way to choose the desktop to start up. I guess this logon app is called xdm?
My system is pretty basic. I installed WindowMaker, Synaptic, KDE, Gnome, and Mozilla. I installed KDE before i installed Gnome.
If this is a configuration issue, no sweat. I can locate and edit text files. I just need to be told where to look and what to change.
