Exclamation cd won't play with Soundblaster.

I have just installed Linux (Red Hat 9.0) and I'm trying to play audioCDs, but nothing comes out of the speakers. I have tried to plug in a cord between the cd-player and the sound card, but then I only get 2 channels and crappy sound (instead of 4) and then again, if I play the CD under Windows I get full sound quality even without the cord, so why should I settle with less on Linux? I mean Linux is so grat at other times... Also if I connect with a cord the controls don't work as their supposed to. So my question is how can I remedy this?

Lots of love
Tillus

Most CD players (the programs) have an option to enable 'digital extraction'.
With this enabled, you don't need the cable between the CD drive and the
sound card, and the quaility should increase. So check your programs options section.

I've tried to use KSCD, XMMS, Grip, Noatun, I've even checked the sound mixer. Which CD-program were you thinking of?

What a delay in a response huh?

I've been using KsCD.
Extras -> Configure KsCD -> Use Direct Digital Playback (check the box).

Also, under which CD to use, I tend to always use 'proper' names, like /dev/hdd,
as opposed to "/dev/cdrom" or "/dev/dvd".

Hope you see this and it works. Good luck.

also even though this seems obvious
there is an external source volume control labeled "cd"
make sure it's unmuted and turned up
