cd into external hd?

i have an external hd formatted into 3 fat32 partitions...they show up on my konqueror, and in my home directory, and even with little usb icons in my applet tool tray, and i regularily use them to listen to music and transfer files etc...so they are definitely werkin....

when i am in the shell however, i cant cd into the sda dir...i have been using the command cd /dev/sda1....is there a different command i should be using?

also, sometimes the computer "loses" the sda1 or 2 or 3, and i cant bring them up...if i simply turn off the ext hd, and then turn it bak on, its all good again....

furthermore, when i hover the mouse over their icons, it does not show the size of the folders on the drive..i hafta actually go into permissions by rightclicking, and calculate....

any advice appreciated...thanks

you wouldn't cd to /dev/sda you would cd to /mnt/whatever the mount point is in fstab.
df -h is good for giving size of hardrives.

Hope that helps a little.
