cant play mp3 in ubuntu 7.10


using ubuntu 7.10 on a packard bell easy note and all works well but cant get the mp3 player to work.suspecting that i need to install w64 codec but cant find the right one(plus how to install it) I just would like to use the rhythmbox player provided.

Enable 3rd party repositories in Synaptic - search for and install the ubuntu-restricted packages.
