Exclamation Cant install grub after intalled windows xp...


Hi, yesterday ive installed windows xp pro on my new machine, which i also installed linux(FC4 x86_64), but now im unable to boot linux using grub, ive tried to restore grub using a command like "grub-install /dev/sda", btw im using a SATA drive (120gb), but this command does not do anything it just hangs... ive done this using the FC4 resucue mode, please what can i do to restore my grub? anyone can help me? thanks in advance!!

Hmmmm... I don't remember what assumptions grub-install makes... but if you know your partition layout it should be easy enough to run grub manually. Do you know which partition contains /boot?

Hi, yes i know my partition table is something like:

/dev/sda1 /boot 100mb
/dev/sda2 lvm2 95gb
/dev/sda3 fat32 20gb

So if you boot with the recovery cd and run "grub" then enter the following commands from the grub prompt:
root (hd0,0)
setup (hd0)
quit
