cannot play music in my xxms player

Hi all,
I am new to Linux and have recently installed Suse 10.2. Everything is fine, but for some reason my xxms player refuses to play any music.
Do i need any extra plugins? Also, i need help about the procedure to download plugins so that my media player, plays.

Many thanks
Steve

mplayer is better

xmms is a good wimamp player you need to get the codec for playing mp3

http://atrpms.net/dist/f7/lame/

but I would not use xmms case it need a non standerd mp3 codec I would try kplayer or mplayer.

Go into XMMS's Options --> Preferences --> and make sure you have it configured right. Alsa should have a drop down list under Output Plugins that might need to be configured. And under Input Plugins is CD Audio Player that might need to be configued for Analog or Digital input. Also, alsa is muted by default, so go into alsamixer and umute it if you haven't already.
