Cannot install Linux anymore in a particular notebook.
I have installed and tried a couple of distros in an old laptop with no problem whatsoever, but after a hardware problem it became impossible for me to install Linux again.I will try explain the details cause when I searched similar cases only focusing the error message it was to no avail in solving the issue.
I had installed and was working properly windows and lubuntu in dual boot. After a hardware problem I had to send the laptop to have the motherboard repaired and the HDD had disk errors cause the motherboard was causing the notebook to shutdown randomly.So I could not load the system anymore cause after several shutdowns it corrupted the grub menu. I did not tried to fix this for i was going to replace the hdd for an ssd anyway.
I installed windows on the new ssd with no problem. After that I proceed to installing Linux on dual boot and follows what happened:
1- using a bootable usb stick of Linux Lite 6.6 received the message file boot not found and then shows GNU GRUB;
2-tried first option, boot Linux Lite Live system. The screen flickers on and on and shows the message, grep: /root/etc/apt/apt.conf.d/50unattended-upgrades: no such file or directory. Failed to start Show Plymouth Boot Screen. Raise network interfaces.
3-Tried the remaining options to no avail and in one of them I waited more than one hour for the final message but it got stuck and I gave it up.
Tried installing Peppermintos Debian based.
1- boot not found then goes to a menu;
2- tried fail-safe mode option, after more than 1h it got stuck with no final message.
3- he other options on the menu were similar to the Linux lite and resulted on the same error messages.
I created both USB live using Popsicle and later on tried using balena etcher. The result was the same.
I tried to search on internet for solutions using the error message I received related to Plymouth but the suggestions could not fix the problem. In all cases that i found Linux were already installed whereas in my case I'm trying to install it.
Yes, windows 10 home is working fine. At some boot it shows a screen to choose the OS but there's only W10 installed and that's the only option that appears. I wonder why it's showing such a screen if i never ever had another OS installed on this SSD. I only created the W10 partition while installing it and w10 installer automatically created what else it needs. The partition to install Linux i intend to create only during the installation process, using Gparted i presume, or similar method.
Fast boot is disabled. I could not find something about secure boot in the American Megatrends version 2.15.1226 UEFI BIOS.
I tried again booting with the PeppermintOS USB stick and pressed "e" at the menu. It showed: setparams ' Recovery...'
and 5 more menuentries similar to the above only changing local parameters.
I deleted quiet and splash on all the 6 entries but i did not understand exactly where i shall type video=1024x768.
After that i pressed ctrl x and it showed 6 options accordingly to the previous menuentries. I chose the first one: PeppermintOS on sda2.
some results:
warning: fsck not present, so skipping root file system done.
mount: /root/run: mount point does not exist.
run-init: can't execute '/sbin/init': no such file or directory
run-init: can't execute '/etc/init': no such file or directory
run-init: can't execute '/bin/init': no such file or directory
run-init: can't execute '/bin/sh': no such file or directory
No init found. Try passing init= bootarg
I wonder why it's showing such a screen if i never ever had another OS installed on this SSD
That information is on the system board not the SSD and you said you previously had Lubuntu installed on this machine.
Are the problems you refer to in your last post from booting the Peppermint 'live/install' USB? Did you verify the download of the Peppermint iso with an md5 sha checksum? How to and the correct sum should be on their site.

You put it in place of the quiet splash-- parameter.

Yes, i was booting the PeppermintOS-Debian-64 'live/install' USB. To verify the download i did the following:
I opened the terminal over the Downloads folder where the PeppermintOS-Debian-64.iso file was;
I typed sha512sum PeppermintOS-Debian-64.iso;
Downloaded the PeppermintOS-Debian-64-sha512.checksum file;
Then i compared the string of characters generated on terminal with the one on the .txt file, which matched perfectly;
After the string of characters on the terminal is written "PeppermintOS-Debian-64.iso" whereas on the .txt file is written "PeppermintOS-Debian-64-amd64.hybrid.iso".
Am i missing something?
