I am an windows user, but I was curious on how linux works. But instead I just end up being more confused.

I have an HP Pavilion dv5134eu, SUSE 10.1, and I can't seem to find my wireless network, I've read that ndiswrapper would let me install the drivers, this does not seem to function properly.

I know this is just a user malfunction, but I do not know what to do.

You need to be more specific to gain any real insight. Specific hardware you are trying to get to work, and exactly what you did to try to get it to work.

well I tried some commands that was listed, like Make and Make Install, but none of them seem to work (this is for ndiswrapper).

When I say specific, I don't mean specifying vaguely what you did. If you do not know what you did, chances are good that you did nothing. Did you recieve any errors. Did it seem like it did anything. Also since you are using SUSE and are very new, you'll want to try using Yast to help you along. Here is a how-to for NDISwrapper in Suse 10.0. The thing about Linux is that you have lived with Windows your whole life, you've become accustomed to each other, but you've grown apart. Now that you've left Windows or are seeing other OS's you must get accustomed to their ways. Linux is not going to be just like Windows, and somebody had to write this program to get their own hardware to work, because companies do not write drivers for us, so whenever you get to thinking you have it bad having to do a search on how to install something, think of the poor guy who had to write the program or driver that you are installing.

A great deal of the time Linux will work perfectly straight out of the box, but I think this "new image" of Linux is a raw deal and can be misleading to newbies. There are hardware support issues not because Linux chooses not support certain hardware, but because the hardware chooses not to support Linux (or more appropriately anything but Windows.)

Linux users are amongst the most knowledgable computer users out there (myself excluded :P), and so you will have a large database of information, but it will not usually be fpoonsed to you by any of these users. You will have to read man pages and how tos, and if you do not know what RTFM means, you will.

Also the commands would be make and make install as linux is VERY case sensitive. This may seem stupid but there are very good reasons. So if you see a command in a how to and you want to issue that command it must be in the exact same case as given.
