yet another newbie question.

I created a user (because everything I have read says that one should create a user instead of tinkering in root) did that... but when I typed the command "startx"
it appeared to be loading into KDE...BUT an error message popped up that says "/tmp out of disk space" what does this mean??

My partitions are hda1 Linux system
hd5 linux swap
hd6 /usr/local
hd7 /home
hdd cdrom drive (which I finally mounted!! whoo-hoo yet another victory for the newbie)

one more thing, this may sound like a STUPID question but where do I store files (docs, wallpaper, mp3, etc....? in /home?)

It sounds like you may have a diskspace distribution problem.

Type in :
and post the results. Someone who knows what they're talking about (i.e. not me...) will be along shortly and help you out...

is this a wrong setup and why would I run out of disckspace in /tmp aren't new users added to the /home directory which would be a total for me of 9 gigs?

New users are added to /home, indeed. But /tmp lies under / and your / is 100% used. /tmp is used in many diff ways and by many diff programs. You gotta have space in it. Try to erase things you don't need too much.

Can I fix this problem without reinstalling slack? is there a way to repartion/resize my current partitions..thanks
