Can't install Win XP but Kubuntu & Knoppix install OK

I know this is a place for questions, but all I have is praise today. My Epson CX9400 printer-scanner-fax was connected first time today. Kubuntu found it & installed it. That was good. Just push in the USB cable and get notified it was ready to print. Sweet.

I have 2 hardware items Kubuntu does not do, so the Thinkpad a got a change of hard drive & Win XP. XP insisted I let it find an Epson CX9400 driver and failed to find one. After 10 hours of installation & updates, XP still did not know what to do with my Intel 945 system and still failed to install the Epson printer. How easy can it get, a Thinkpad with only Intel chips in it and all the drivers on disk but XP, SP3 can't make it work. Since XP was still not able to handle the Intel chipset, PC card port and USB ports properly, I could not try the hardware items and cleansed the HDD of Windiz.
I must have made the transition from Windiz world to Linux completely; today I failed to install XP fully but twice completely installed Kubuntu and Knoppix.
How is it the old Knoppix 5 does my Thinkpad full of Intel chips fresh off the CD but XP SP3 can't do my sound or video systems even with a Lenovo driver web and hours of MS updates?
Kubuntu will do the scanner part of the Epson also. Google Epkowa for the scanner driver for Epson CX9400.
Last September I bought a closeout Thinkpad with Vista, It crashed, BSOD, every hour and would not update, failed every update with BSOD. Swapped store for a second Thinkpad that had same Vista crash problem, just switch it on and watch it crash within an hour. No need to push a key, just switch on & wait for BSOD. In Ubuntu or Kubuntu it never crashes. Seems my conversion to Linux is complete, I can't even install Windiz now.
