Can't install new fonts to Ubuntu 8.04

i've learnt from answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/faqs and try to install my true type fonts to ubuntu 8.04 by copying myfonts from cdrom to desktop by means of mouse rightclick copy and paste at respective places. i run command sudo mkdir /usr/share/fonts/myfonts sucessfully. but i can't run the command cd /home/username/desktop with no such directory reply. Therefore i can't copy the ttf files on desktop to above new dir myfonts.
Pls help me to complete installing my ttf fonts to Ubuntu.

You need to replace username with your username. For example my login is freddy so i would /home/freddy/desktop. In fact on my desktop because linux is case sensative i have to type cd /home/freddy/Desktop.

Hope this helps!!
