Can't connect to Internet or access Dos files in Fedora

I have just installed the publisher's distribution of Fedora. I used the Internet connection wizard to configure a connection and have edited it many times in the network manager (or whatever it is), but I don't connect. The modem dials but that's all. It would help if I got some kind of feedback during the connection attempt, but all I can do is wait until the modem dials again to know it didn't work. I have a U.S. Robotics modem and it definitely is not a Winmodem. Each time I restart Linux now, I get a message saying that worldnet.att.net can't be looked up or something to that effect. This happens whether or not I have set the connection to look up my ISP. I can't remember exactly what it says there and I can only connect in Windows, so it is pretty time consuming to reboot to look things up. I have carefully typed in all the info including DNS a number of times and I am sure I have gotten them right at least once. During the boot, I get a message about eth0 failing and to check the cable. If I have an Ethernet card, I don't use it.
On another note, I can't mount my NTFS partitions. I get a message saying the filesystem is not supported by the kernel.

Thanks. I just put in a new D disk. If only I had known I would have formatted it as FAT32. I have plenty of disk space and I could still copy stuff to another disk and just create FAT32 partions and solve that problem. Still haven't figured out the connect problem, though.
