Given that there's a rather large window that "programming" can mean, either/or can probably suit. They're rather opposite ends of the spectrum (I'm of course ASSUMING you're referring to the Thinkpad P53) for Dev laptops, one being ultra small and the other being rather huge.
thanks for replies looking something that could go beyond basic in programming in c and python into app and script programming would be running arch linux with any desktop something that has lot power and memory and wireless card that be easy set up.
thinking dell xps 13 be better
Dell is generally higher quality, & therefore likely to last longer in use.
Is that so? I always thought the Lenovo Thinkpad line were the toughest. I'm on my third Thinkpad and I have never had a durability problem but once. However I could be wrong.
As a student I used to service Dell desktops and I always thought they were well build with possible servicing in mind as well. Better than the Compaq PC's that were a nightmare to service.

Back when IBM made the Thinkpad, that was definitely true. Now that Lenovo makes the Thinkpad, they're more or less equal, although Dells Latitudes did boost better upgradability for a while (IBM/Lenovo whitelisting of hardware, most specifically wifi cards), but they no longer do that. IMO, Latitudes are a little smaller/lighter than Thinkpad of the same basic configuration (same generation cpu, same size screen), but Lenovo has a nicer keyboard.
