boot problem after using mandrake 10 to write to FAT32 partition

Hi, yesterday after using mandrake 10 to download ome files from the internet to my FAT32 partition, i couldnt boot up at all after i restarted my computer. when it tries to boot into my hard disk, it displays around four or five rows of "99", like this:

L99 99 99 99..(and so on)

I thought it was safe to use linux to write to FAT32 partitions? or was it not such a good idea after all? and what should i do to boot into my hdd?

Do you have mandrake and windows on the same partition.
If so which boot loader are you using.

Try and repair your MBR(master boot record) and that should help.

I personally have never come accross errors writing to FAT32 partitions form Linux.

I have had nothing but problems with Lilo. You should always use Grub when it is available. It is so easy to reinstall to, just use a live cd, mount the partition, chroot into it and type grub-install /dev/hda
