Depends on the browser your using which you failed to mention as there are dozens of them out there for Linux. Usually most browsers will create and store them as *.html or *.xml type files in your users /home directory.
If you were using Mozilla, then you could look around a little in the directory .mozilla (DOT-mozilla)
Do you know how to use the command line? If not, then you could do it from Nautilus (the gnome file manager) by 'Edit' > 'Preferences' > 'Icon & List View' and select 'Show Hidden Files'. Then you should see files and dirs with names that begin with a dot. There is probably some similar feature in KDE.

Hi Guys,
I'm having the same problem. I need to back up my bookmarks as I'm blowing my system and starting over. Unfortunately, where you said to look, the bookmarks listed there are not all of them. I don't know why. I have Mozilla1.5. Where else would I look for them?? Thanks

Hi Martin,
No, I didn't realize that there was that function so I wound up doing it the hard way and writing them all down on paper. I know it was a stupid way, but I got it done, so. . . Thanks though
