Best migration policy

If I am changing my hardware what is the best way to migrate my old configuration to the new one (if I can't switch hard drives physically). Is it best to copy an image and build a new kernel somehow. But if I copy a image the old kernel won't boot ...right? So boot it with a floppy and then build a kernel. Please advise??

Depends on how much customization you did to
your kernel, mate. If you stuck with the distro's
default (most things as modules) and didn't move
from IDE to SCSI it should be fine with the old
kernel. Actually the hdd I/O is the only really critical
part, so if the kernel had support for IDE, SCSI
and SATA you could be just fine (after adjusting
/etc/fstab accordingly).

Cheers,
Tink
