Being Anonymous on XChat?

I just got Slackware 9.1 working great! Is there any way I can keep more anonymity on XChat? When I type /whois *myusername*, I see my IP address. I don't like this. Does anyone know how to prevent people from seeing that?

use an anonymous proxy ...
but the irc server will have to support you using it ...
if it doesn't it just won't let you connect and it will tell you that ...

Where can I get an anonymous proxy? Is that something I have to download?

An anonymous proxy has to run on a different machine. Many IRC networks try to prevent you from abusing such open proxies.

Another option is to use an IRC network like undernet where you can register a username. Then /whois shows nic@username.undernet.org.
