Unhappy basic file editing

Hello:

I know this is very basic, but I don't know how to do it properly
yet:

How can I edit Linux system files? Is it with the Shell or some
other application?

I am using Linux Red Hat 8.

Thanks for your time.

Hello dartainia,
At the very least, most distros come with the editor, vi. More than likely your RH 8 install came with pico or nano as well.. Try either of these in a terminal. Hope this helps.
