Backpack CD-RW USB not recognized

Friends.

Can someone help me get my Backpack CD-RW (model 192100), with USB connection, to work under Mandrake 9.0, please?

It works fine under XP, but I cannot get it to work under Mandrake. I installed the file that is on Micro-Solution's home page and that is giving the support for Linux for those Backpack drives. They say that one also needs the following drivers:
usb-hotplug
fxload

I found the fxload one but have not been able to find a usb-hotplug. I did find a 'hotplug' one, and a combined hotplug-fxload but that was too old. The Backpack requires a 2002-04-01-1 or newer.

Nothing happens re. the CD-RW when I start the computer into Mandrake (no green light blinking which happens when logging into XP).

What should I start with to try to find the problem?

Thanks for your help
Carl
