backing up

Recently my kubuntu wouldn't boot properly, giving disk read errors on the sata drive. After running fsck etc. from system rescuecd - a very useful tool - I had to restore using Partition Magic Exact Image on Windows XP. It has a check for bad blocks option. I'm now in business again.
Is there an open source, linux equivalent?

regards Ron Petch

Hi,

It's slow but 'dd' is a great way of making an image of a partition or entire disk.

A quick search on the net showed:
