Average RAM usage...

Hello all,

I'm just wondering what my average ram usage should be, I've got 512mb of RAM and 'Gnome workstation command center' is saying that 70% of my RAM is already used...which doesn't sound right.

Any idea's why my system is using 70% of my RAM without doing anything?

Just incase you need to know the speed of the computer.
CPU - p3 700

Thanks.

What jeremy is trying to say is that linux uses up memory, usually will fill up anything it might think is
useful. unlike windows which doesn't fill up and use all the memory that is there, linux will use this to
its advantage. most likely in your case its not just loading those two programs but anything else that
might be useful to your system.

don't worry, its normal. if you swap file ever gets filled up, then start worrying..
phew..thats alright then.

Thanks for the quick reply.

In your defense, sometimes LQ search function is tricky, and other times its not.

However, I have not seen it go down!
