ATI Radeon 9600 Driver Problems

I downloaded and Instaled the ATI Radeon 9600 Driver RPM, and use YaSt to install them. When I configure my graphics with Sax2, Sax2 says 3d is enabled after restart. However, when I look at my hardware profile after a restart, it says 3d is disabled. I go to any 3d application and it repeats the mantra. My working user is part of the "video" usergroup. Help.

Also note:

after i install the drivers, the drivers only go up to radeon 9200! No matter how many times I download and install. What is up with ATI?

Get and install the latest drivers (3.11 series, available from ati.com).

The problem is that previous drivers don't play nicely with the 2.6 kernel
