So I made a live cd of PCLOS and it works fine on my laptop, but on my desktop it will load all the way to the login, root or guest, and my keyboard doesn't work at all.

It would help if we could get a little more info, make and model of M/B and keyboard (wireless - PS2 - USB - etc.)

I'm guessing M/B is mother board, i don't know what it is, but my computer is a brand new HP 2.4ghz dual core 400gb hard drive 512mb bfg graphics card with vista, the key board is the one that came with it not wireless not pluged in a usb(it has a purple round plug with one flat side). I don't know what P/S means. If you need the make and model number of the M/B, tell me where to look and ill get it for you. Thanks alot for helping.

I am going to presume the keyboard works with the other 'OS' (operating system). You may need to go into 'bios' and enable legacy or change PS2 settings if there is an option.

Yup, the keyboard works fine in vista. Ok I Googled changeing bios settings and it seems if you do something wrong you can really mess things up so I'm not too sure about changing that stuff. I'll probably try it anyways, so what should i do first, enable legacy or change ps2 settings(and what do i change ps2 settings to)? Also is there a chance that if i DL and make a live cd of another distro of linux that i won't have this same problem?

Yes, if you change bios settings things can not work or operate in a different way. Most bios settings have a default setting in case you get into trouble. The main thing is to change only one item at a time and check it out. This way if something does not work you can change it back. I have no way of knowing which bios you have, the above are suggestions. You may look and see if you have anything mentioning PS2 and read the explanation that the bios have. If there is no mention of PS2, check and see if there is a legacy option. You can try another live cd but I cannot say it will be any different.

I'm having the same problem on a Dell Inspiron 4100 laptop. The keyboard works fine at the boot menu on the livecd but once I'm at the login screen it is no longer working. Went through my bios and couldn't find anything relevant. Does work with OS I'm about to replace. Also noticed that touchpad does not work either. Trying to acquire an external keyboard to see if that will work.

Plugging in PS/2 keyboard did not work either USB mouse works however. Don't have a USB keyboard at the moment but I will try to get and and post my results.

USB keyboard worked. Installed PCLinux. Keyboard and touchpad on laptop still do not work once I get to login screen on fully installed system.
