Asus Eee box pc 1007, How to load operating system


Hi
I recieved an Asus Eeebox PC 1007 as a gift.It has a imbedded super basic operating system called Express Gate.I would like a fuller version of LINUX but when I tried to fire up a Ubuntu from a flash drive my friend gave me the Eeebox dose not reconize it at start up.Im baffled.Im very new to Linux.Can anybody help?

Have you tested the USB stick to check it works?
Assuming it works or you can't test it the next step is to change the boot order in the BIOS of the EEE. On my EEEPC this means hitting F2 on startup to enter BIOS, navigating to "Boot" in the BIOS setup and going, somewhat confusingly, to "Hard DisK Drives" then changing the order so that "USB:ClvrStuf USB" is first (for you it will probably be "USB:" then the drive manufacturer name). Then press F10 to save and exit and the EEE should boot from the USB device.
If you do this and it complains about the USB drive not being bootable you'll have to go back and make it bootable using GParted I think.
I created my USB installer using UNetbootin and things were very smooth on an EEEPC.

Generally, an install (or a try out) from a CD will be less problematic than one from a flash drive.
