Asterisk 1.4

Hi all.

I know this is not an asterisk forum, can someone with his/her experience guide me to a wonderful forum like LQ for beginners ?

I am still just explaining my problem. If anyone feels like kindly guide me.

I have installed centos 5.5 on vmware workstation. I successfully installed asterisk 1.4. i ran the following

asterisk -rvvv

It gave me the console

I entered dial 1000

It played the greetings also, but the voice was very jittery and not very clear. Is it a known problem ? was it because i am running it on vmware ?

I'm guessing running it through a virtual machine didn't help - audio processing tends to be a relatively intensive task (though perhaps my computer is just showing its age...)

However, it's not necessarily the only problem. Am I correct in assuming that you are trying to run it from Windows, hence the VMing? My personal recommendation would be to install Linux, but then again I would recommend that for almost any Windows-related problem 'tis what comes of indoctrination, I'm afraid...

Your problem is the virtualization layer. Does your CPU support paravirtualization? If so, use it to give the VM hardware access. Make sure to give the VM enough RAM too! (512MB minimum) and don't run other heavy processes (say, openoffice, decoding audio or video) while using the VM.
