Application drop down menu not work????

In the top left corner the "places and system" menus drop down, but the "applications" menu does not. It just highlights, but nothing shows up. Any ideas how to fix this???

Ok, to make it a little more clear. Basically I accidentally removed the menus from panel. I tried to re-add them, but seems to lost all the applications and system items. Is there any way to restore the default setting with the drop down menus? Also accidentally removed internet icons.
