Angry ALSA did't work

Hi everbody

recently I installed ALSA on my RedHat Linux 8.0 for nforce2 chipset, the installing complete succeful. But I still did't get any sound

Here is what I do

bunzip2 alsa-driver-1.0.0rc2.tar.bz2
tar xvf alsa-driver-1.0.0rc2.tar
cd alsa-driver-1.0.0rc2
./configure --with-cards=intel8x0 --with-sequencer=yes;make;make install

cd ~
bunzip2 alsa-lib-1.0.0rc2.tar.bz2
tar xvf alsa-lib-1.0.0rc2.tar
cd alsa-lib-1.0.0rc2
./configure;make;make install

cd ~
bunzip2 alsa-utils-1.0.0rc2.tar.bz2
tar xvf alsa-utils-1.0.0rc2.tar
cd alsa-utils-1.0.0rc2
./configure;make;make install

cd ~
bunzip2 alsa-oss-1.0.0rc2.tar.bz2
tar xvf alsa-oss-1.0.0rc2.tar
cd alsa-oss-1.0.0rc2
./configure;make;make install

modprobe snd-intel8x0;modprobe snd-pcm-oss;modprobe snd-mixer-oss;modprobe snd-seq-oss

After this I have editing in /etc/modules.conf file.

# ALSA portion
alias char-major-116 snd
alias snd-card-0 snd-intel8x0
# module options should go here

# OSS/Free portion
alias char-major-14 soundcore
alias sound-slot-0 snd-card-0

# card #1
alias sound-service-0-0 snd-mixer-oss
alias sound-service-0-1 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-3 snd-pcm-oss
alias sound-service-0-8 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-12 snd-pcm-oss

#alias sound-slot-1 snd-intel8x0
#post-install sound-slot-1 /bin/aumix-minimal -f /etc/.aumixrc -L >/dev/null 2>&1 || :
#pre-remove sound-slot-1 /bin/aumix-minimal -f /etc/.aumixrc -S >/dev/null 2>&1 || :

After all this doing I can't get sound.

So someone please help me

Thanx in advance

ALSA is always muted by default after install. Unmute with a mixer (alsamixer, aumix, etc.)

wow, you went through quite a bit of work to get alsa running

true, alsa is muted by default, so try unmuting your sound system within redhat

also, download alsaconf, it is a program that will let your select your sound card and automatically modify /etc/modules.conf for you

Just a quick tip that is unrealted. You don't need to bunzip2 and then tar. Try this:

tar -xvyf alsa-utils-1.0.0rc2.tar.bz2
