After recompiling the kernel the sound and graphics drivers are not loaded

Well, I installed Slackware 9.1 and the compiled from source the audio and video drivers. All was working perfectly and then I recompiled the kernel: make menuconfig make dep.. etc. When I rebooted I couldn't hear the sound and the video drivers where not loaded. I can solve this problem by recompiling the audio and video drivers but isn't there a simpler way ? by somehow using the old compiled drivers ?
