Is it possible to have 2 programs play sounds at one time? Like, if I wanted to run GAIM and XMMS, I could listen to music and hear the little ring when an IM comes. I've been using SuSE since december, and this has just been KILLING me. Is it even possible?
Thanks,
Louis
I know I can hear two sounds at once, for instance... I have a TV tuner card in my mandrake rig that I recently set up for a tivo like program called mythtv. During part of the set up how to for mythtv, I tested my sound drivers by running another program called xawTV. then I'd mute the line in of my alsa mixer and run an app called aplay. It plays the sounds back a bit delayed which is simmilar to the way it works when watching live TV. I fiddled with my mixer a bit while doing this and discovered if I un=muted my line in where the sound from the TV card plugs in, I could hear both the real time audio from the tuner card and the slightly delayed audio from the aplay app at the same time.

i know i'm having the same problem as Louis, I can't get either to output to ALSA, so they both try ARTS. Any other sound server I try doesnt work, so is there a way to get them both to work with ARTS
