[slackware]how can I add extra security?

Hello,

This is my first post so I am excited to be here as I've been lurking around this forum for sometime now. My question is simple I guess, I want to add some more security to my slackware-14.2 installation so I was wondering, what can I do to harden it a little more?

I googled about this topic but I mostly find debian or ubuntu tutorials, what if I uninstall apache, mysql and sendmail? what other packages can I uninstall without breaking the system?

greetings

Hi & welcome! LQ 'loves' Slackware [but] the [infamous] 'more info' comes to mind

http://wiki.linuxquestions.org/wiki/...21.27.27.27.22

Here's my (also kinda Newbie to Linux, tho oldUnixCLI'er) thoughts:
Do you have a 192.168.x.y IPaddress? (RFC1918/private/non-routable)
IF so, I -think- that covers the 'first' level of access. (I welcome others explanation!)
BUT: if you accidentally download/install (click on a web link) malware, the trojan is IN.
You probably don't need to run (nor install?) those services.

So, tell us a bit more: publicly accessible? What web-research keywords have you tried?

A couple links here and here; I'm sure others will offer much better! Enjoy! Let us know

First, thanks for the answer, no I don't own a server if that's what you're asking I only have a home computer and I wanted to make it a little more secure so I was wondering what could I do to do so, I found some videos on youtube where they removed apache, mysql and send mail and I thought if there's maybe more I can do to improve security.
