Unhappy wvdial to A1via ZTE MF190

Hello,
Having installed a USB-Modem-Tongle under Windows 7 - where it worked out of the box - I am now trying to get it to connect to the ISP (A1, Austria) under Linux-Mint 18.2, 64bit. Here is my wvdial.conf, generated through wvdialconf:

Code:
[Dialer Defaults]
Init2 = ATQ0 V1 E1 +FCLASS=0
Modem Type = Analog Modem
Phone = *99#
ISDN = 0
Username = 6983041000
Init1 = ATZ
Password = mypassword
Modem = /dev/ttyUSB2
Baud = 9600
This is what I get when trying to connect:
Code:
sudo wvdial
--> WvDial: Internet dialer version 1.61
--> Initializing modem.
--> Sending: ATZ
OK
--> Sending: ATQ0 V1 E1 +FCLASS=0
ATQ0 V1 E1 +FCLASS=0
--> Sending: ATQ0
ATQ0
OK
--> Re-Sending: ATQ0 V1 E1 +FCLASS=0
ATQ0 V1 E1 +FCLASS=0
OK
--> Modem initialized.
--> Sending: ATDT*99#
--> Waiting for carrier.
ATDT*99#

I'm not sure if the same is true for you, but I had a very similar problem (before I got a smartphone with wifi) and it turned out the device I was using before, well... it died altogether on me not long after it kept dialling and then re-dialling and re-dialling (the same as what is happening in your case).

It may be a hardware failure. It seems possible given the similar nature of your problem.

I doubt that it is the hardware, simply because - under Windows 7 - on the same laptop everything works just fine. By the way - my Linux distro is Mint 18.2-KDE

Hello again,
I have now tested wvdial (same version 1.61) on my Mint 17.3, running
on the same Laptop was Mint 18.2 or Windows (no virtual machine!).
I am using the same wvdial.conf file in both Mint cases. The output which
I get on the console for 18.2 follows. No "real" connection is established
(ping to a known host returns "desination host not reachable" on 18.2).

wvdial
--> WvDial: Internet dialer version 1.61
--> Initializing modem.
--> Sending: ATZ
ATZ
OK
--> Sending: ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0
ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0
OK
--> Sending: AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","aon.data"
AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","aon.data"
OK
--> Modem initialized.
--> Sending: ATDT*99#
--> Waiting for carrier.
ATDT*99#
CONNECT 7200000
--> Carrier detected. Starting PPP immediately.
--> Starting pppd at Tue Sep 19 11:54:09 2017
--> Pid of pppd: 5395
--> Using interface ppp0
--> local IP address 91.115.194.66
--> remote IP address 10.64.64.64
--> primary DNS address 195.3.96.67
--> secondary DNS address 213.33.98.136
,,, nothing more follows...
------------------------------------------------------------------------

Below is the output on the KDE-konsole for Mint 17.3, running on exactly
the same hardware (laptop). ping to the same known host works just fine!

wvdial
--> WvDial: Internet dialer version 1.61
--> Initializing modem.

OK
--> Modem initialized.
