WinXP is a pain in my force.

Preamble. Yes, I've Googled and searched this forum. One would think the answer would be easy to find. Alas, it is not.

Installed Slack 9 with Dropline-Gnome and I love it to death. Best desktop Linux experience I've had yet. And yet, I've run into some trouble. Particularly in the networking arena. I've configured smb.conf and added smbd and nmbd to my startup. Testparm looks good, and in fact my WinXP box can see and access my Linux shares. However, the reverse is not true. I cannot access the WinXP shares. I've tried through Nautilus, and in fact can navigate to the WinXP box, but when I select the PC I get an error stating Nautilus does not have a viewer capable of accessing the share. I installed LinNeighborhood and can get to share level, but cannot mount the shares. Now, I could swear that at one point I was able to access the WinXP shares via Nautilus, but no more.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Here is my smb.conf:

[global]

workgroup = HOME

server string = File Server

log file = /var/log/samba.%m

max log size = 50

security = share

socket options = TCP_NODELAY SO_RCVBUF=8760 SO_SNDBUF=8760

dns proxy = no

[shared]

path = /shared

public = yes

only guest = yes

writable = yes

printable = no

Rather simple config, really.

May the force be with you. Always.

Have you got the samba clietn installed? smb.conf and the servers are only used represent "File and printer sharing" in windows and are not required to connect to other machines.

Check your log entries in /var/log/samba/. At least that's where it is in Debian... If you'd posted a more descriptive suject matter mentioning Samba I would have psoted a lot sooner.
