windows to windows via linux

Hey everyone, I have a question. I've searched around for it but haven't been able to find an answer. I have the following set up:

Machine A (xp) ------------- /// internet /// -------- B (MDK 10) ¬¬¬¬¬¬ C (xp)

"¬"represents private lan

Can anyone tell me whether it's possible to set up xp-to-xp filesharing from A to C using an ssh tunnel to B and forwarding the correct port(s) to C? I've had a few attempts at this but with no success. I should add that I'm able to samba-tunnel from A and map shares located on B. I can also access Machine C's shares from B. And I'm able to tunnel a VNC session from A to C.

I've been assuming that this process would be independent from samba, since the ssh server (B) would simply be forwarding the connection to the tunnel end-point at C.

Does this all make sense? Has anyone done anything like this before. If I've overlooked something, and this is impossible, can anyone shed any light on why???

Many thanks,

jon56er

arno,
thanks, yep I've done that and it works ok. The trouble is it was quite slow - i then wondered whether it was the samba protocol that was slowing things down. But also I'm curious as to whether what I suggested is possible...!

The only thing I can think of would be a VPN with the server on the XP box. The MDK box would just foward the connetion. XP home does not have a builtin VPN server but there is www.openvpn.net I believe that XP Pro and W2K do have a built in VPN server.
