why dosent linneighborhood allow setting up printer?
Well, this is one question I was wanting to ask here...
See, I have Mandrake 10.0 Official and I can view and mount directories in linneighborhood...However, it doesnt allow me to install a shared printer by either double clicking the printer icon or by right clicking the printer icon and clicking 'mount'....In fact, nothing happens if I try to left click or right click the printer icon while browing shares in linnieghborhood...
In contrast, under windows 2000 or 98, I can just double click a printer and it gets installed, or i can right click the printer and click 'Connect' and I can use the shared printer without a hassle....
Can anyone explain why I am unable to do so in linneighborhood...If it allows me to mount shared folders, then why not let me connect to a shared printer on my lan in the same way ???
Is that a case of missing functionality in linneighborhood ??
LinNeighborhood is only concerned with browsing file shares. Its not intended to handle shared printers.
Printers are handled differently than shares in Samba.
If you need to set up a printer, and you use KDE (which I'm assuming you do since you're using Mandrake) go to KDE Control Center (aka Configure my Desktop)-->Peripherals-->Printers. Then Click on Add, Add Printer/Class, then select SMB Shared Printer, and then enter the server, workgroup, and name of shared printer.
