what to use instead of smb://hostname

hi

i am browing my window network from Redhat Linux 7.3 by typing a command smb://hostname but it seems to be a problem as i have to implicitly give the hostname to browse. is there any other option so that i can view all the computers of Windows network and Linux network in same place like Network Neighbourhood in Windows network. If it is possible in Linux then how is it possible pls anybody explain me

Puru

there are programs around like linneighborhood and gnomba which basically imitate explorer. You can find them easily enough, and there's plenty of views on them on this site. But i'd really advise you to try to break free of windows conventions, seeing as i assume you are trying to break free of windows itself. if you want to do it the proper way, read up on smbclient and smbmount. if you only have a very small network it's trivial to mount shares on boot.

Well, normally, browsing just "smb://" in nautilus will bring up the whole network, then double click on it to see all the computers in the network. But if it is a network of any size, nautilus is slooooow!

Other than as a curiosity, I've never understood the need to browse a windows network from a linux machine.
