What program is listening at port X

Hello All!!

Is there a log file or something similar that tells what software is listening in a port? For example, my server is accepting connections
to port 5000, how can I discover what program is listening in that port..??!?!

Thank All of you!

Rodrigo

You can try using nmap localhost, it usually tells you what service is using it...

Use:
Code:
# netstat -atunp
If that doesn't show the program name you'll at least have the PID to track it down using ps.

Just a quick thought, might not be of any help to you at all, but I'd try telneting or netcating into the port, and see if you get any responce. worst case senario, you get a shell prompt (thats not good)..
