What is the telnet command for liinux?


What is the telnet command for linx or is there one like it

erm... "telnet"

use ssh instead if possible.

I want to telnet a windows system that has a telnet server...
How do I set up a ssh server or does it use the same thing or somthing

no, ssh is not compatabile with telnet, you'd need an ssh server at the other end.

Question(and a dumb one at that): When you telnet into a windows box you get a dos prompt right?

that is a good question, i've never telneted to a windows box,

Dunno which ditro U R running....but if U need access to Windows box, U can run a Terminal Server on Windows box and then use "rdesktop" from Linux box to get the windows desktop exported onto Linux box...

i have never done it but i did some googling and found 2 websites:

1 is for cygwin the oher is for openssh + cygwin, the 1st link is where
i found the other 2 links:

http://www.networksimplicity.com/openssh/ the 1st link that contains links to the following:

http://www.cygwin.com/
and
http://tech.erdelynet.com/cygwin-sshd.html

the last one is the one that tells u how to setup the ssh server.

you get an ssh server for windows, and install it. can't really say much more than that....

no idea what that's meant to mean but i told you in the very very first post what the command was. it's just that telnet is BAD and should be avoided if possible.

Try Cygwin and open ssh server...The following link could be helpful.
