Talking webmin and passwords

I've searched and searched but i can't find the answer I want. I'm trying to access Linux from my VMWare Win98SE. Having messed around with Webmin, I can now see Linux in Windows. I can change which parts of Linux can be seen - and the "share"? names - but I do not have the password to get into the shares. I have tried every password I know ;-) but that ain't enough. I can't make head or tail of smbpasswd. I don't remember ever setting up a password.
Linux to Windows doesn't present a problem...so i'm not completely stuck. I'd just like to use my non Linux supported scanner (Microtek 3800 - please correct me if it is supported!!) in Windows and save the file directly to Linux.
Thanks in advance.

Thumbs up mount the win98 partition

Do u have a Windows partition in the linux ?

If u have, u can actually save the scanner files onto the windows
partition and use Linux to mount that partition and access it.

The command is :

mount -t vfat /windows_partition /mount_linux_point

if u use webmin, it's easier coz webmin will auto recognise the
windows partition

My problem is not accessing Win98 from Linux but the other way round. When I am in VMWare using Win98, I can see Linux in Network Neighborhood but when I click on the share it asks for a password. I don't have that password. I've never set a password up.
