WAN based LTSP

First I am new to linux but learning fast.

I am using SuSE 9.3. When I boot on a lan LTSP works fine, X loads and I have a working desktop in no time. However when I try booting from the WAN X times out.

We have tried booting across a DSL line and cable modem. Both with the same problem. I am quessing my upstream traffic in both cases is to slow (256k). What could I do to make the boot faster and less bandwith intensive?

Reading through the forums I have seen varing opinions on which dist. is fastest. LTSP aside, which distrubution loads X the fastest and with less resources.

Again I am sorry if my Terminology is off, I am a recent refugee of the "Micro" world
