Using Linux system, internet went bit slower?

I installed full Linux system either Fedora 3 or Mandrake 10.1, both of their internet browser and emails are bit slower. I have compared the speed between my computer (linux) and my wife's computer using Windows XP, her internet speed is more faster than mine all the times... (real big time faster than mine)

I tried to look around in Linux, REMMY, I am newest Linux system...

Many thanks for help!

You Need to set your DNS server.

/etc/resolv.conf
nameserver xxx.ip.of.my.dns

I tried to set DNS server,

Type in root su -
type /etc/
type either nameserver 192.168.0.1.ip.of.my.dns OR
nameserver xxx.ip.of.my.dns

it came out command not found....

I am using Dlink router, I see resolv.conf in etc folder... But I am not sure with procudure... Sorry my dummy and promise to improve my skills for Linux! ha...

Thanks again...

Try doing some throughput test @ bandwidth.com or some other speed test sites.

So you can actually know it's slower. In some cases slow GUI responses get's observed as slow internet.

There is that distinction between :

a)slow internet : slow to resolve sites, high latency
b)slow internet: slow transfer rate, not enough bandwidth

Can you explain what GUI stand for and what does it means? I went to Bandwidth.com for speed test and they tell me that my speed is 2,614 kbps... I am using DSL... I thought my DSL tells me that it can go up to 3Mbps?

I am gonna to try my wife's computer for a test.. but she is using now...
