Hello,

What exactly do you mean by 'use VPN'? Do you want to setup a VPN server in Debian 6 or use a VPN client to connect to a remote network using a VPN connection?

That being said, LQ is not the place to turn to for step by step guides and howtos. You'll find us at our best when you try a guide you've found on the internet for example, and are having trouble with it.

Kind regards,

Eric

Hi,

Most used packages are:
Quote:
strongswan - IPsec VPN solution metapackage
vpnc - Cisco-compatible VPN client
openvpn - virtual private network daemon
openconnect - Open client for Cisco AnyConnect VPN
openswan - Internet Key Exchange daemon
There are lots of setup guides available on the internet. If you use Gnome you might have a look at one of the plugins for the software package you're going to use.
Quote:
network-manager-openvpn - network management framework (OpenVPN plugin core)
network-manager-openvpn-gnome - network management framework (OpenVPN plugin GNOME GUI)
network-manager-strongswan - network management framework (strongSwan plugin)
network-manager-vpnc - network management framework (VPNC plugin core)
network-manager-vpnc-gnome - network management framework (VPNC plugin GNOME GUI)
There are also plugins available for other desktop environments. If you're going to connect to a Cisco VPN gateway you might have the best results with vpnc.

Kind regards,

Eric

Hello,

You're welcome! Try installing what you need and set up connection. Don't hesitate to post when in trouble.

Kind regards,

Eric
