Upgrade to IPv6 - throw old routers away...?

Does an ISP have to throw away all their old routers if they're trying to upgrade to IPv6?

Thanks.

probably not, no that would be incredibly silly, more then likely they update the firmware on the routers with a newer version that supports ipv6, this would be done with TFTP on commercial grade routers (note, even consumer grade routers can often be flashed with tftp, but not as easily, normally upgrading the firmware of a consumer grade router is done with it's web interface)
