Unable to see Win XP Home in places, but can see XP Pro and Vist computers ok


Running ubuntu 11.x, unable to locate xp home SP3 machine on network, but can see xp pro and both vista computers on the network. msi K7, 1.2 Ghz, 1Gb Ram. behind linksys router and another network switch (D-link)

Is it possible to network to home SP3 now days? Curious 'cause using thumb drives dosen't help when one machine dosen't support USB2, another problem

The simple answer is yes, it works for me. Home is a little lacking. I just re-installed it on a system that is going to move to my daughters farm. I always use fixed IP addresses, i avoid DHCP. I always have a hosts file on all systems, including any windoze systems. They contain the IP to host names I use. Make sure all systems are using the same Workgroup name. I have also seen, as a suggestion to delete the Guest account on XP. I usually do since I don't want just anyone using a system.

Make sure you can ping between systems. I also set up my Samba server as a Wins server, then in XP point it to the Wins IP address. That is about it, never had an issue with this kind of setup.
